Ministry Summary

  • Ministry info for Donna Laurie: Leading preschool,  teaching the afterschool program (english class), and participate with taking care of babies & toddlers in the foster home.
  • They use a pretty potent cleaner in the fosteir home and some people are allergic to it, so watch out for it.
  • Not the busiest schedule, but it is a nice pace. Enjoy the slowness of it and rest in the fact that you get to play with babies all day. It’s such a happy place to be –  Also, the afterschool program kids are a little crazy but so much fun.

Lodging

  • Leo Hostel – http://www.leohostel.com/LEO_HOSTEL_HOME.html
  • The WR has used this hostel many times. Leo Hostel, actually owns two hostels and with enough notice should be able to house any sized squad. When contacting them request to work with Noodles,Email:heyuanhostel@163.com

  • Bejing Heyuan International Youth Hostel! Its great – good location, excellent property, plenty of space, fantastic staff, clean, comfortable beds, very helpful with directions and transportation
  • It was a bit expensive, $11 USD per person per night, but I imagine most of Beijing willgive those prices.

  1. We stayed at this AWESOME AirBnB outside of Beijing! We got to use the whole facility and it’s in a beautiful mountainous area if you’re into that for a debrief! Two catches: 1.) Figuring out transportation up and down the mountain is a bit of a pain, but the host DOES know a dude with a bus, so ask her about that! 2.) If your squad is really into having a million meal options around them for debrief, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR THAT!!! There are definitely restaurants around, but they’re kind of wiley in the hours they’re open 🙂 Our squad bought groceries on the way up at the big, awesome grocery store and then if stuff was open, we’d eat out, if not, we’d make lunch! https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26674690?source_impression_id=p3_1581672114_gS1D4Ej1G2dFPlm9&guests=16&adults=16&check_in=2020-05-01&check_out=2020-05-10 That being said, we used this place and came in WAAAYYYYY under budget!!! WOOHOO!! It can host up to 32 people($4.18 pppn if you use every bed) and there are a couple of AirBnB’s within walking distance for coaches/mentors. You can also book a driver for them daily because it is so under budget!

  1. A lot of the ATMs here are hit-or-miss for Charles Schwab holders. VISA works at any ICBC that you can find on the street or in the subway stations.

Tips

People’s Opinions

  1. You can get Facebook, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Amazon Instant Video or any American website normally blocked by downloading a VPN (virtual private network). However, you must download the VPN before arriving to China. For those who have Mac (iPod, iPhone, iPad, Macbook) or Android, you can get Tunnelbear, an app and software that allows you to trick the internet into thinking you are in America. https://www.tunnelbear.com/
