Vizag beach is safe mainly because no one lives around there. Our host didn’t allow us out at night or to go down to the beach after dark because sometimes the fisherman in the area get drunk down there. But it also turns out that they are afraid of the dark, so most of their precautions are from them not being comfortable after the sun goes down.

We stayed at a school on the property, they provided us with cot beds to sleep on, the rooms also had ceiling fans in them. There were western toilets and bucket showers available.

Meals were provided for us and were typically a huge plate of rice with a very small scoop of vegetables or potato curry. The hosts also do not like spicy food so don’t expect much spice here.

We took a train from Hyderabad to Vizianagram and from there our host picked us up for the 3 hour drive to the beach school. We only left the school on sundays to go to whatever church we were attending.

Cell reception was almost non existent even with the SIMs in the baby phones. There were only certain places we could stand to get service.

The only thing to do here was go down to the beach which is a 3 minute walk from the school.

If you are going here make sure you sit down and explain the budget and how it works. Have them make a clear plan for ministry and the things your team is good at, my team was an all guys team that loved manual labor and they had a ton of opportunities and projects that needed done but we never got to work on them. Also explain your roles on the team, I needed wifi because of Logistics stuff, our treasurer needed it for receipts and the TLs also need it so make sure they understand that and take you into the city to get the resources you need.
