Safety

Safety in Sanda, Japan
What do other Racers need to know in order to be safe? Current safety protocols/precautions in place? Any relevant issues/concerns? Any precautionary suggestions?

People’s Opinions

  1. Felt very safe in Sanda. The only thing is if you’re riding a bike at night make sure you have a working light or headlamp on you because you will get pulled over. Also don’t J-walk and always use the cross walks.

Ministry Summary

Ministry Summary in Sanda, Japan
Breakthroughs? Suggestions? Concerns? On a scale of 1-4 (1 being not at all, 4 being absolutely) how strongly would you recommend another World Race team go to this ministry location & why?

People’s Opinions

  1. We worked with Peter and Wendi Thomson and their Flip English ministry. As well as Christopher and Hutsho. We taught over 20 english classes over our month there. Some multiple times throughout the day. Usually in the afternoon to the evening. Then on the weekends had community events such as cooking classes, school visits, and seasonal parties as well as a going awat party. Everything is well structured and planned out the way Japanese culture tends to be.

Lodging

Lodging in Sanda, Japan
Where did you stay? What were the accommodations (sleeping arrangements, toilets, showers, etc.)? Cost (per person per night in USD), Contact info.

People’s Opinions

  1. Our team of 7 was split into 3. Our 3 guys stayed with Peter and Wendi at their house in the Tatami guest room sleeping on mats. The 4 girls were split in two and stayed at multiple Japanese homestays throughout the month. We used Peter’s house as our place for meetings and team times. The girls never stayed too far from there. But usually had to be back at their homestays by 6:00pm.

Food / Meals

Food / Meals in Sanda, Japan
What did you eat? Where did you get the food? Cost (per person per day in USD)? Contact info (if applicable).

People’s Opinions

  1. Our home stays provided breakfast and dinner. We usually went to the Aeon Mall for lunch. The food court has McDonald’s and as well as KFC. There’s an Udon noodle place and sushi restaurant too. Also right next to Peter’s house is a grocery store that sells bento boxes which are filling and budget friendly. You all can use Peter’s kitchen. See if Peter can take you to a rotaion Sushi place. It’s worth it to spend a little more!

Transportation

Transportation in Sanda, Japan
What transportation did you use to enter the country? Where were you coming from? What transportation was used to move throughout the country? Be sure to include the cost per person in USD and contact info if applicable.

People’s Opinions

  1. Everything was usually in walking distance. Peter’s family has 4 bikes you can borrow if they’re available. Just make sure the lights work when biking at night. Anywhere far like the train station and Kyoto Peter will drive you. We took the train for a trip to Osaka and its a bit complicated. If you ask someone for help in the train station they’ll most likely help you out with where you’re trying to go.
