We felt VERY safe in Saldus. It’s a small, quaint town, and we didn’t have any issues with safety at all.

People’s Opinions
Ministry: St. Gregors Christian Mission CentreHost: IevaFor the month, Ieva planned out things for us to do such as putting on a weekly Bible study for the youth in the town, visiting old folks homes, weekly dance classes, and a weekly teenage girls group. For one week, we worked with St. Gregors for a youth day camp and taught various classes. The last weekend, we went to a village outside of the city and put on an overnight camp there.

People’s Opinions
There were 2 teams at St. Gregors, so there were 14 racers with us. WONDERFUL living arrangements, where we stayed in rooms with 2 either 2/3 beds per room. There was a lot of storage space in the rooms with closets and little tables. Nice bathroom, hot showers, all the kitchen equipment you could need. Wifi was really good in the 2nd floor main lobby, but would reach to the first floor.

– Cheap pizza and beer at Stenders Pizza.– Fun atmosphere in the “basement” at Velve (had my birthday dinner there and it rocked).– Ice cream by Stenders and Rimi on the corner of the street is BOMB and super cheap!

Off Days / Fun Activities
Off Days / Fun Activities in Saldus, Latvia What activities did your team experience? Recommendations? List locations/contact info. Any locations to be avoided? Any extra safety tips for off days?
People’s Opinions
Days off here in Saldus can look like a number of things. There isn’t a ton to do in the town itself, though. I would suggest spending some time at the lake, but other than that your off days would be spent very well going into Riga! We took a bus from Saldus to Riga several weekends and it’s a breeze. 5 Euro one way, wifi on bus, very comfortable. You can always walk to the bus station and purchase your tickets ahead of time (suggested). Riga is an incredible city to explore but it’s huge, so do some research and map out how you want to spend your off days there!
