Take the time to go to Ohrid, the next city alongside the lake. It has a beautiful Old Town with great little shops etc. The city also has several beautiful ancient Orthodox churches. St Cyril came here and tradition says it was in Ohrid that he developed the original Cyrillic Alphabet in order to take the gospel to the Slavic peoples north of the lake. Later two of his disciples refined it into the alphabet we now know of as the Cyrillic alphabet.
Another great day trip is to the Monastery of Shen Naum (Sveti Naum in the Macedonian language) on the side of the lake near the Albanian border.
Lake Ohrid is the second deepest lake in Europe and is spring fed. There is a lake trout that is native to the lake and it is really good! In Albanian it is called Koran.
