Safety

Safety in El Sunzal, El Salvador
What do other Racers need to know in order to be safe? Current safety protocols/precautions in place? Any relevant issues/concerns? Any precautionary suggestions?

People’s Opinions

  1. It’s really safe in my opinion, but locals say be careful at night – things can get a little more dangerous then, especially if you head over to Tunco. Don’t walk around alone at night, especially ladies.

  1. Richard, the owner of Sharky’s restaurant, kindly worked with our budget of $3.15 per person to provide us awesome dinners each night. We added up the total amount, and pointed that out to him along with the fact that we would individually be buying drinks from him on top of that number. He hired extra people for the week we were there, and they all worked very hard. He was also super nice, and held a superbowl party for us while we were there. His email address is richwilson@hotmail.com There are also vendors along the main road where you can buy good local food at inexpensive prices.

Debrief Location Specifics

  • Really fun debrief spot!
  • Much more of a private setting which is good for the squad, and tons of fun things to do.
  • If you stay at Sunzal Point, his manager, Baltazaar, owns a few touring companies (Check out Eternal Summer El Salvador on facebook or google) that include surfing lessons and waterfall tours that you can go on for pretty good prices. We definitely took advantage of those options.
  • Also, go check out Tunco, it’s a 10 minute walk along the beach. Really cool little town with restaurants, cafes, and shops that are fun to explore.

What activities did your team experience? Recommendations? List locations/contact info. Any locations to be avoided? Any extra safety tips for off days?

People’s Opinions

  1. Surfing: Rent a board for $5/day Sand castle building contest: always fun Waterfall: $10/person.There’s a nearby waterfall that one of the workers at Sunzal Point took us to. It was maybe a 30 minute drive and a 30 minute hike, but you can jump off some rocks and go swimming. My team did it and had a great time.
