Safety

It was a very safe and touristy area, we stayed here for our Debrief.

What do other Racers need to know in order to be safe? Current safety protocols/precautions in place? Any relevant issues/concerns? Any precautionary suggestions?

People’s Opinions

  1. It was fairly safe, we came upon a pickpocket and Cerro de la Cruz is notorious for muggers. Just be vigilant, also check the town page on Antigua.

Lodging

Posada La Merced, the email address is posadalamercedantigua@googlemail.com. Lodging was $6 per person per night; the owners gave us an incredible deal.

Fernando & his wife Gerlinde

  • They own the restaurant and hotel and were very, very generous people
  • Do not know the Lord but we were able to pray over them and give them a bible

People’s Opinions

  1. We stayed with Craig and Carol at Casa de Fuego. Craig and Carol are with Adventures and their hospitality is wonderful. Casa de Fuego is just outside of Antigua and the cost is relatively cheap (because it’s part of Adventures). Have tons of rooms and space. All the rooms had bunk beds and there are showers with hot water! Breakfast and dinner were served by Carol and teams mostly went to Antigua to eat. Address: 14, Villas de Santiago Entrance Lot 1E, Cd Vieja
  2. Hotel Los Nazarenos: private rooms (2-4 people per room) each with their own bathrooms (w hot showers). Free Wifi. You can rent out entire hotel with a squad of about 40 people. Meeting space included with price of rooms. -and lots of space (couch areas and roof area) for squad to hang out. In a quiet area of Antigua, but easy walking distance to central square and lots of cheep food/ coffee shops near by. There is not kitchen provided. It is family owned, super friendly (daughter speaks good english). We payed 11USD per person (but you may be able to negotiate cheaper). hotelnazarenos@gmail.comCallejon Camposeco #3

  1. We debriefed at the hostel and also at Potters’ Field, a facility about a 2 min walk away. We used their back pavillion. However, we needed to be very quiet as they were doing classes.

  1. Refuge/Refugio Coffee is a Christian-affiliated coffee shop with excellent respect for the bean and the brew. Great coffee and a great place to meet or network with other missionaries and NGO workers. Address: 7a avenida norte # 18 A, Antigua Guatemala (2 blocks west of the park between Calle 4a poniente and Calle 3a poniente)
  2. You can sniff out mom and pop places for Q25 a plate – and you get a ton of food with it. Rincon de Comida Tipica, and there is a place if you look at the big yellow church’s front, across the street. Excellent food.
