We stayed (without paying) inside the children’s home, in a room where some of the children used to sleep but had moved from since an electrical fire.
There were mattresses and some beds and enough room to pitch tents inside.

Bought groceries for breakfast and lunch from Progreso (nearest city).
Dinner cooked by nannies- usually baleadas (flour tortillas with beans and cheese) or eggs and tortillas.
Average throughout month was about $4/day/person.

Did not leave site of children’s home much, except for free days to nearby beach or to Progreso.
We took public bus, which was about $1-2 fare per person.

Beach called Tela about an hour away.
Progreso, nearest city, is about 15 minutes away and has a mall, theater, and restaurants.
San Pedro Sula, one of larger cities (airport city), is about an hour away and has malls and restaurants as well.
