Ministry Summary

  • Rating: 4
  • Main priority is the children, but there is also work around the home
  • Visit their slum ministry and also visit their leprosy colony.
  • Communication is very hard with the contact and you will never really get a straight answer. Go in with a lot of patience and always triple check that what you heard is what you actually heard.
  • They will rarely ask you to do anything so you have to be proactive in asking what they need you to do.
  • They are used to teams coming in and paying for everything so know that ahead of time and know that it is okay to say no to things that aren’t in the budget.
  • The kids are spiritually mature so don’t be afraid to teach them the more in depth things.

Lodging

  • Apartment provided.
  • There are cold showers, a nice squatty and two bedrooms with nice mats to sleep on.
  • You will want to keep the door closed to the bigger bedroom to keep the smell of the poop out, but if you do this there will be no ventilation and mold WILL start to grow on the wall.
  • You are just going to have to deal with the smell of poop for the month or you will all end up sick because of the mold that grows.

People’s Opinions

  1. You will fly or train into New Delhi, it’s super busy, being the Capitol of India and the business center. The SOUTHERN part of New Delhi next to DEER PARK is quite progressive, posh hipster, and safe. There is still cheap street food and vegetable stands, all the things other parts of I dia have. The only downside is that its 30 to 40 min from the train station (in central new delhi) But if you are standing in Delhi for any length of time over 2 days, I would check the south side out. We stayed at Aazaadi Hostel

People’s Opinions

  1. A fresh juice a day helps proved your body with proper vitamins and nutrients. Pray over your food, use some discretion, and praise God through the squirts if they happen.
  2. Don’t drink the fresh fruit juice from the stands on the street. You WILL get sick.

People’s Opinions

  1. The center of New Delhi is touristy and business like. To avoid spending hours in several tour agent offices trying to sell you the month long rail pass (which would be a great option if you were an actual tourist traveling to over 5 destinations and only spending max 3 days in each place) Avoid the sly sales tactics and go directly to the Ministy Of Tourism of India. Tell them straight where you want to go and how long you plan to stay. *everyone will think you are silly and not understand why you want to stay in a specific location for 1 to 3 weeks. In one quick meeting we booked all our travel in India for the month. We went from New Delhi, to our Location in Punjab, and then back to the last stop near to the Boarder of Nepal. Never search for tickets in the station again. Ministry of Tourism, government of India

What activities did your team experience? Recommendations? List locations/contact info. Any locations to be avoided? Any extra safety tips for off days?

People’s Opinions

  1. Delhi is full of smog, but has some great sight seeing. I went to the India Gate, a must see as well as the Lotus Temple. Traffic is so bad however that getting around the city is nearly impossible. We could only get to those two sights the entire day.

People’s Opinions

  1. You can’t buy train tickets for ANY train in India unless you are a citizen of India or you are actually in the country. That being said if you are planning to take the train right when your flight gets in you have to have your contact book and buy the tickets for you. You will not be able to book them online. Also, seats fill up on trains really fast so book as far in advance as you possible can.
