Safety

Safety in Mafraq, Jordan
What do other Racers need to know in order to be safe? Current safety protocols/precautions in place? Any relevant issues/concerns? Any precautionary suggestions?

People’s Opinions

  1. Just in general you want to have a buddy with you at all times in the Middle East. The atmosphere on the streets felt safe in this town, but the ministry host and AIM requires you to have a buddy at all times. We were a team of all girls and we felt safe walking out and about, even at night.

Ministry Summary

Ministry Summary in Mafraq, Jordan
Breakthroughs? Suggestions? Concerns? On a scale of 1-4 (1 being not at all, 4 being absolutely) how strongly would you recommend another World Race team go to this ministry location & why?

People’s Opinions

  1. This was my favorite ministry that we did so I would for sure say a 4!! Doing this ministry not only gives you a chance to live with community that isn’t just your WR team, but it also gives you a chance to just sit and listen to the Syrian refugees, while also providing their needs. The pastor always quotes, “Everyone wants to know about the refugees, but no one wants to talk to one.” Also, the host people are all kind and welcoming. We were there for the Holidays and they made that place our home! Also they have a super dope prayer room on the roof!

Lodging

Lodging in Mafraq, Jordan
Where did you stay? What were the accommodations (sleeping arrangements, toilets, showers, etc.)? Cost (per person per night in USD), Contact info.

People’s Opinions

  1. We stayed at Crossroads church in Mafraq with pastor Nour and it was great! You stay at the church in community dorms. They were just renovated so they are actually pretty nice. You have about 10 people to a room with bunk beds and full clean bedding. You get storage for all of your stuff. Each room gets bathroom with a toilet and shower. I think it was a little over budget, but we lived at the place that we did ministry and so LT wasn’t really needed.

  1. We flew into Amman. To get to Mafraq we took a bus that our host set up for us. While in the city we used mainly our feet, but sometimes we needed to use a taxi and it was 1 dinar.

Medical

Information on local hospitals / doctors / pharmacies. Where would someone go in a medical emergency? (addresses and contact info).

People’s Opinions

  1. There are a couple of hospitals in the town and the host is always on call if need to take anyone. There is a pharmacy right next to the church, most of us got like a cold at some point and just went to the pharmacy and picked up cough drops and meds and it worked great! Also there are a couple of nurses that work as a translator for the church now, but they are available to help out as well!
