  1. Nakuru is a safe city overall. Travel in groups of 2-3 after dark. Ladies, don’t take any public transport by yourself after dark.

Ministry Summary

Ministry Summary in Nakuru, Kenya
Breakthroughs? Suggestions? Concerns? On a scale of 1-4 (1 being not at all, 4 being absolutely) how strongly would you recommend another World Race team go to this ministry location & why?

People’s Opinions

  1. Glory Shiners Kenya is AWESOME! Joel and Tara are the leaders and their staff are wonderful. 4 – The ministry is focused on inner healing and prayer. Joel and Tara poured into us more than any other ministry we’ve been with. If Joel offers to do some inner healing classes with you, DO THE HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They do some discipleship and prayer ministry with prisons, minister and support the Pokot tribe with food and a church, and run a preschool which doubles as a feeding program. They also partner with a few other local ministries: the Beehive (a young women’s program, most of them have babies), the Babyhouse (taking care of babies and developing relationships with nannies), and possibly help distribute water filters. Be super prayerful with this ministry. We did devos with everyone each morning that Joel usually leads. I hope you’re team is challenged and grows as much as we did this month. Its the month where we all laughed and cried the most, and it felt like family.
  2. Our team was with GloryShiners in Nakuru, Kenya. Our hosts were Joel and Tara. They are an awesome American family from Georgia and have two small kids.4 – I would HIGHLY recommend this as a ministry location. This ministry does a discipleship program within the prisons (it sounds scary, but it’s not). They also do ministry with the Pokot Tribe on Mount Paka. They also partner with other organizations to do orphan care and ministry with college students. This was my favorite month of the Race by far!

People’s Opinions

  1. Next to the garage where the Land Rovers get repaired there is a place that serves really good fish. Ask Justice (Petit) to take you. I eat a lot of fish but this might have been the best I’ve ever had. Its Tilapia and you eat with your hands 🙂
  2. They just put in a KFC in Nakuru!…bad for the budget, good for the soul.
  3. At the Westside Mall in Nakuru, there is an awesome coffee shop called Java House. Everything on the menu is super delicious. They have food for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as numerous pastries. The prices are definitely outside of the World Race budget, so you will need personal spending money to buy food here. There is WiFi available at Java House and it is a great place to spend your Sabbath Day.

Off Days / Fun Activities in Nakuru, Kenya
What activities did your team experience? Recommendations? List locations/contact info. Any locations to be avoided? Any extra safety tips for off days?

People’s Opinions

  1. There is a crater close by. Its a decent hike but Cliff might be able to take you in the Land Rover. Nakuru Safari is nice and it costs about $70 per person. Beautiful views and a lot of animals. We saw rhinos and hippos (plus the usual stuff) but no lions or leopards. Maybe you’ll be more lucky! The views here are better than the Nairobi safari. It was a full day activity, 9 hours to get around the lake! Worth it though! Trips to Mt. Paka and some of the more distant prisons (for the Pokot tribe) are adventures on their own 🙂 Also, we were the first team to cliff jump HA!
