People’s Opinions

  1. Debrief lodging: Names: You can just look up Apart Hotel Kalonis. Here is their email: aparthotelkalonis@gmail.com. We stayed actually in two places, but they are owned by the same guy and are five minutes walk from each other (so when you email them, you can ask about both places). One is a hotel and one is a hostel. We actually needed two places because we have a squad of 50. Both places were very nice. Rooms differed in number of beds and some rooms in the hotel had kitchens. All rooms had A/C and had good to really nice bathrooms/showers, etc. Cost: Normally, it was 11 euros, but because of our large group we got a discount of 9 euros. It was still a little over budget (but there isn’t much you can do that’s better than that for a large group in Europe) so it got approved by AIM. They were GREAT, too. They worked hard to work with us and were very friendly. In the hotel, there is also a restaurant and we met in the courtyard at the hostel for debrief meetings. It is also only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Skopje square where there is a lot to see, do, and eat. For coaches: We had them stay at the Opera House Hotel Skopje. Our coaches loved it. Their standard rooms are VERY nice and you can get a breakfast that comes with it. It was about a 10 minute walk from our hostel/hotel, but if they want to take a taxi it isn’t that far and was fairly cheap. It was under or right at budget.

  1. Food in Skopje is a little more expensive. But there are a couple bakeries nearby with cheap food. There is also a mall and on your walk down towards the square there are some restaurants that aren’t too terribly expensive either. But it is definitely harder staying within that $5 a day World Race budget.

What activities did your team experience? Recommendations? List locations/contact info. Any locations to be avoided? Any extra safety tips for off days?

People’s Opinions

  1. There is so much to do in Skopje. There is the Square, statues everywhere, a fort near the square that is free that you can walk to, their is a famous cross (have to find transportation there), and a place to kayak called Mount Matka. For these last two things, just ask the people at the hostel/hotel and they can help you. There is a lot of cool, free/cheap things to do in Skopje.

  1. Occupancy: Again, we were able to fit our squad of 50. Room layout: HOSTEL – One room with 4 beds One Room with 5 beds One room with 3 beds One room with 7 beds One room with 6 beds HOTEL – 2 x Duplex Apartments for 7 persons in each ( with two rooms) 5 x Triple room ( one king size band, and one single bed) 1 x Deluxe studio with 4 beds. ( one king size, and two single beds) 2 x Double room ( One king size bed) 1 x Triple room ( with 3 single beds) 1 x Apartment ( with one bedroom, for 2 persons) In the hotels, their are bathrooms in the rooms. In the hostel, they are just outside the rooms. They all had wifi, the hostel had a kitchen on the first floor, it had sheets, lockers, etc. The hostel had a BEAUTIFUL courtyard. Also in regards to Water: It was safe for us to drink from the tap. But if you have a sensitive stomach, there is a little shop on your way from the hostel to hotel where you can get water.

Did your team debrief at this facility or elsewhere? What space did you use? Suggestions/recommendations. Contact info if applicable.

People’s Opinions

  1. For our debrief meetings we used the courtyard. For team debrief meetings, we used the room where our SQL’s stayed which was in the hotel and when you walked into welcome desk, it was the room connected to that. It worked really well.
